Try NOT reading your email first thing in the morning and getting just 2 or 3 jobs done instead.

I read this little tidbit in an online marketing book I'm reading, and while the book is a bit gimmicky, this recommendation was only a few pages in and I'm actually looking forward to reading the rest. It got really good reviews on A.
Oh... and by the way, I've actually been trying it for a month now and it has indeed helped me get more done, without really sacrificing my email reading or surfing time. I just do it later in the day after actually having made some progress.

Tough Road To The Cup
The 2006 World Cup Draw is set. Soccer fans the world over are beaming with incredible anticipation.
Groups C and E (U.S's group), have been voted the most difficult to win.
Brazil is again the favorite to win the entire tournament.
